Heritage Oval Playground located in Illawong within the Sutherland Shire was upgraded by Sutherland Shire Council in 2021-22. PORT was engaged to provide landscape design and documentation services for concept, tender and construction phases.

This playground is flanked by a sports oval, existing toilet block and bushland reserve. Due to its surrounds, the footprint of this playground had to be compact while also connecting the carpark and toilet block to the playground. Underground services required that the playground was raised to limit any excavation.

A path connects an existing carpark to the playground and although this was not intended to be a fully accesible playground, ramped access is provided to a seating area and flush access to the mulch softfall surface. To connect the playground to the toilet block, wide sandstone steps matching the playground edging have been used.
